While we’re sure most dog owners would not change their pet for the world, apparently only a third own the breed they had always wanted.
Recent findings from Direct Line Pet Insurance revealed 26 per cent opted for a different type of mutt due to the fact their preferred breed does not suit their lifestyle, while 16 per cent simply thought their favourite dog was out of their price range.
However, if we were to pick the ideal canine it would not be any particular breed at all, but rather a mix of many.
According to the survey, the perfect pooch would have the body, fur, tail and face of a Golden Retriever, the ears of a Cocker Spaniel, and the legs and speed of a Greyhound.
Ryan O’Meara, co-founder of dogsblog.com, said: “Over the years, our dog adoption website has noticed a distinct increase in dog lovers actively choosing to adopt cross-breed dogs.”
He stated that many look for Golden Retriever crossbreeds, as these tend to offer the same loveable looks and characteristics of purebreds but tend to be in better health.
No matter what type of dog you think is prettiest or sweetest, it is important to find a breed that fits in with your living habits.
“People are rightly searching for breeds with personalities and traits that will suit their lifestyle and we hope they continue to do so,” Mr O’Meara stated.
One of the reasons why Golden Retrievers remain a popular choice for British dog owners is that they are eager to please, easy to train, joyful, and loyal, according to The American Kennel Club.
Whatever breed of pooch you have, why not treat it this Christmas with some natural dog treats in the UK?
